For one thing, the bulk of it involves teenagers sneaking out, going into a restricted area, which is not only close to soldiers (of a semi-totalitarian government) but also close to zombie infested areas, yet they run around, making LOTS of noise, and yelling “WEE!” (or the equivalent) A LOT!! This kind of thing always annoys me considerably, and this is actually one of the worst examples of it. As for the flashback segments, they're more than adequate, but they do suffer from a few problems of their own. Not to mention just the satisfaction knowing that a lot of raiders were lost during the time that the main game did not show. It works because Ellie was always the one that we, the audience, interacted with, rather than saw everything through, so hearing her thoughts and seeing how she approaches situations, similar but not the same as Joel, does add a good bit of bonus content. Also good is that we actually see an engaging bit of storytelling that takes place in the present, during a time in the main game (about 80% through) where Ellie is the one protecting Joel, rather than the other way around. 2h 44m PlayedThis DLC/Expansion does offer a solid bit of character building, and it does represent a rare instance where viewing someone's backstory is actually somewhat engaging.
